She carried me in her womb with great difficulty. The more I weighed the greater her discomfort but the happier she became. It got to a stage when she could barely sleep because of my movement and size but she thanked the Almighty for the reassurance that I was well.
She met near death giving birth to me but as soon as she saw me she forgot all the pain. Her face lit up in excitement. She fed me, changed my soiled clothes, bathed me, entertained me, carried me around and spent much time hushing me to sleep each night. My cry woke her up from her light sleep every night yet she happily attended to me sacrificing her sleep.
When I fell ill, she nursed me and looked after me with great care. She then packed my lunch for me, sent me to school and waited eagerly for my return each day. Her smile and embrace comforted me and little did I know that my favorite food awaited me.
When I screamed at her disrespectfully, she forgave me. When I disobeyed her she prayed for me and never gave up on me. She protected me against harm. She was firm with me when she knew I had much to lose if I gave up.
So today as I see her old and frail, would it be fair to be irritated with her, to give up on her, to maltreat her and to consider her a burden?
MY MOTHER! What wouldn't I do for you? As much as I love you, forgive me for not being the ideal child. I promise I shall try by the help of the Almighty. Forgive me for being so ungrateful yet you sacrificed so much for me. Forgive me for no tolerating you when you did much more for me a few years ago.
But MUM! Help me to respect you and fulfill your rights by not being unreasonable with me. I beg you to understand my situation too. Iask that you help me fulfill MY duty towards my Maker, my wife and children. I beg you to respect my wife just as I beg you not to make me choose between the two of you. She will never be able to take me away from you so don't make life difficult for her.
