(Attock VU Group) PHY301 GDB

Electric current is a flow of electric charge through a medium. This charge is typically carried by moving free electrons in a conductor or semi conductors such as copper wires and silicon or germanium. It can also be carried by ions in an electrolyte such as salted water, or by both ions and electrons in plasma.

In solid metallic conductors, electricity flows by means of free electrons, from lower to higher electrical potential. In electrolytes, current flows through electrically charged atoms which are called "ions". However, in gases electric currents flows through both positive and negative ions and electrons.
